โฆ Synopsis
Novel observation of total ion chromatogram (TIC) splitting under positive chemical ionization in an external source ion trap mass spectrometer
Since 1996, the Finnigan MAT Company has produced an external source ion trap mass spectrometer (ITMS). So far, few studies about chemical ionization mass spectrometry (CIMS) with the external source ITMS have been reported. 1 -7 Previous work on CIMS with the external source ITMS has demonstrated the features of this instrument, including excellent sensitivity with MS/MS capability, 1 -3 unusual adduct ions observed in the negative chemical ionization (NCI) and collisionally activated dissociation (CAD) processes 4 and hydration phenomena observed in the CAD processes, while examining dimethyl ether (DME) CIMS. 2,3 In this study, we applied the external source CI method to examine an interesting phenomenon observed in the external source ITMS, namely the observation of doublet peaks in the total
