✦ Synopsis

A microwave photonic filter based on a structure of an actively mode-locked fiber laser is proposed. The mechanism and relation between the actively mode-locked fiber laser and the proposed microwave photonic filter are theoretically investigated and experimentally demonstrated. A microwave photonic filter with a free spectral range of about 7.1 MHz, a 3-dB bandwidth of about 0.05 MHz (centered around a frequency of 2.5 GHz), and a Q-factor of about 140 is demonstrated. The proposed microwave photonic filter can be tuned easily by adjusting an optical variable delay line in the ring cavity. A good agreement between the measured results and the theoretical estimations is demonstrated.

We show what we believe is the first demonstration of an ytterbium-doped strictly all-fiber active mode-locking laser. The active control of the laser is based on in-fiber amplitude modulation at 11 MHz, which is achieved by using an all-fiber acoustooptic superlattice modulator driven by standing a

## Abstract An actively mode‐locked fiber laser (AMLFL) based on the hybrid gain of a dispersion‐shifted fiber (as the Raman gain medium) and an Erbium‐doped fiber (EDF) is introduced. The fiber Raman gain mechanism can effectively suppress the gain competition of an EDF, which usually results into

We propose and demonstrate a passively mode-locked Erbium-doped fiber laser based on symmetrical nonlinear optical loop mirror. The nonlinear optical loop mirror with intensity-depended transmission can act as an equivalent saturable absorber, which results in passively mode-locking of fiber laser.

A new broadband omnidirectional U-shaped metal-plate monopole antenna has been proposed. The antenna is easy to implement at low cost by bending a rectangular metal plate into a U-shape. Prototypes of the antenna have been constructed and studied. Good omnidirectional radiation patterns with gain va
