โฆ Synopsis
Light petroleum extracts of the bark of the Carpano tree, a Cinnamomum sp. of the Family Lauraceae, which is native to Bougainville, yielded, among other compounds', a colourless crystalline material, carpanone (I), m. p. 210-2 0 , which analysed for C20H1806a( M+ 354), ir spectrum, Y KC1 no OH, 1657 cm -l, uv spectrum (MeOH) Amax243 (log E 3.93), 262 (4.04), 298 (3.71). The compound showed no optical activity (ORD measurement). Hydrogenation of ( I) over Pt in acetic acid yielded dihydrocarpanone (II), t CZOHzO06,( M 356)) m.p. 189-90ยฐ, ir spectrum, v KC1 -1 no OH, 1680 cm
