Tissues of the starfish Distolasterias nipon contain large amounts of lipids derived from ethanediol ethers. The neutral lipid fraction yielded, by combined column and thin-layer chromatography, an individual compound of the type 1-alk-l'-enyl-2-acyl ethanediol and a group of saturated 1-alkyl-2-acy
