OUR group has been studying the types and quantities of acid mucopolysaccharides which can be isolated from various sources of connective tissue. It is generally assumed that these acid mucopolysaccharides as protein complexes are components of the so-called ground substances. While this appears to be true for the non-sulphated polysaccharides, the sulphated polysaccharides might be considered more appropriately as components of structural elements.
