The first of these 3864 might have escaped detection here, although numerous early charts were obtained which showed that it was visible to ' the naked eye during seven weeks before its discovery. The spectrum of Turner's Nova is so conspicuous on the plate taken on March 2 5 , that when this plate was developed and examined it would doubtless have been found on it here, but for the prompt discovery and announcement by Professor Turner.") 428 De'couverte d'une variable nouvelle 16.1903 Monocerotis.
