Eingegangen am 20. Oktober 1969 Die NMR-Signale des Imidazol-Teils vom Coffein werden beim ubergang von CH3C02H zu HC104/CH3C02H als Losungsmittel starker paramagnetisch verschoben als die anderen Signale. Gleichzeitig vergrofiert sich die Kopplung zwischen 7-CH3 und 8-H. Beides steht im Einklang mit einer Protonierung am 9-N.

Note on the Protonation oJ' Caffeine

The signals of the imidazole part of caffeine are shifted farther downfield than are the other signals on going from CH3C02H to HC104/CH3C02H. At the same time coupling between 7-CH3 and 8-H increases. Both effects are consistent with a protonation at 9-N.
