Simultaneous unsteady state diffusion and heat conduction in the absence of the Soret Effect are discussed. Under these conditions the problem reduces to diffusion with a variable diffusion coefficient which is produced by the non-uniformity of the temperature field. It is shown that the variabilit

โฆ Synopsis
The paper considers unsteady state diffusion problems with a large flux of the diffusing substance. The general form of the solution obtained for an infinite medium is used for deriving solutions for a simple case of diffusion with a moving boundary (tarnishing reaction) and for diffusion in an infinite composite medium.
All these results follow the same general pattern: for low values of the driving force they are in close agreement with data computed by neglecting the effect of the diffusive flux. For high values of the driving force the convective flux produced by the diffusive flux enhances the overall transfer rate appreciably and therefore its effect cannot be neglected.
