Abstract
One of the ways in which maize is used is as popcorn. To obtain this the maize is expanded and turned inside out by the application of heat j this process is termed the popping of com (= maize). The work described below has been carried out to ascertain (a) why maize pops, and (b) why popping is limited to certain varieties of maize.
