โฆ Synopsis
Despite different titles, the following two papers, respectively by Sillence et al and Maroteaux et al, describe the suine newly delineated skeletal dysplasia. At two recent conferences on skeletal dysplasias in Bad Nauheim and Athens, it was not possible to attain agreement on a common name to attach to both papers, hence the diverse offering of syndrome designations. Our readers are invited to express a preference between "atelosteogenesis" and "spondylohumerofemoral hypoplasia" and to send their vote on a postcard to this impartial arbiter who shall publish the results of this poll as a recommendation for the next meeting of the International Committee on the Nomenclature of Constitutional Diseases of Bone (actually they don't mean "nomenclature" most of the time but "naming," neither "disease" but rather "dysplasias" and "dysostoses"but, that's another challenge for another day).
On one subject though there ought to be little controversy: these are two excellent contributions by two groups of the world's greatest experts on the subject.
