✦ Synopsis

the ''absolute'' magnitude, H 0 , for a comet is not well defined. Formally it is the observed magnitude the comet would have if placed at a distance A statistical investigation of the photometric indices of periof 1 AU from both the Sun and the Earth, as it is for the atmosphereless odic comets shows a mean of about 7.4 ( Ȃ 7.6), a slight body. Unlike that case, however, it probably has very little to do with variation with heliocentric distance and a perihelion asymmetry the size and albedo of the object. Of historical importance is the absolute in the distribution.
