โฆ Synopsis

Meteorol., 19: 391--397.
Cylindrical radiometers, being non circular about the vertical, have errors depending upon their azimuth. This note explores the magnitude of the error which is caused by reflection of the direct solar beam at the wind shield. The cosine errors can be very large when the sun's beam is near parallel with the longitudinal axis of the radiometer.
However, when measuring irradiances on a horizontal plane, such errors are associated with a low irradiance, and the absolute error is consequently diminished to a maximum of 67 W m -2.

The numerical solution presented here is capable of describing non-Newtonian jet flow under realistic conditions (finite width orifice, any type of initial profiles) and has certain advantages over the similarity solution. However, in many instances it might be easier to use the similarity solution.
