โฆ Synopsis
A new theoretical model, based on dislocation mechanics, is used here to predict the residual stress distribution resulting from fatique cracking. Photoelastic results which corroborate the analysis perform the basis for some initial assumptions. The associated phenomena of fatigue crack closure is emerged as a by-product. An expression for the residual stress intensity factor (&a) is derived along with experimental validation.
