✦ Synopsis

We study the helicity balance of the Galerkin method for the 3D Navier-Stokes equations, and show that although it does not appear to correctly balance helicity in the usual sense, it instead admits a slightly altered helicity balance that matches that of the underlying physics, up to boundary conditions.

The foundations of a new discontinuous Galerkin method for simulating compressible viscous flows with shocks on standard unstructured grids are presented in this paper. The new method is based on a discontinuous Galerkin formulation both for the advective and the diffusive contributions. High-order
