Information on eddy diffusion in the atmosphere at heights between one and two kilometres has been obtained from an analysis of observations made on pairs of smoke puffs by using a camera obscura.

The results are compared with a prediction of the Kolmogoroff similarity hypotheses.

## Abstract In this paper the shearing advection term, suggested recently by H. Lettau, is introduced into the well‐known two‐dimensional equation formulated by Sutton and Calder in their treatment of turbulent diffusion, and a solution of the ensuing equation is obtained subject to the conditions
