North American prices for GCC & PCC raised by up to 15%
Specialty Minerals Inc (SMI, a subsidiary of Mineral Technologies Inc) raised its US prices for talc, ground calcium carbonate (GCC) and precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC), effective 1 September 2005. The increases ranged from 5% to 15%. In a new development, SMI stated that as from 26 September 2005, it would add an "energy surcharge" on its price for all paper pigments, the amount of the surcharge to be based on "industry-accepted indices for crude oil and natural gas prices." SMI has also decided to quote ex-terminal prices only and it will no longer quote prices on a delivered basis, mainly because of uncertainties over freight costs and new freight indusry regulations in the US.
Imerys raised US prices for its GCC and PCC grades by up to 15%, effective 1 October 2005. Omya posted price rises for GCC delivered to its customers in North America, effective 1 November 2005. Prices of fine and ultrafine GCC will increase by 8%; prices for steep PSD (particle size distribution) engineered GCC products will increase by 10%.
