โœฆ Synopsis

Results

Table gives the correlations between self-disclosure to closest friend and the MMFI scales. Contrary to the hypothesis, there was a general tendency for the least well-adjusted student to show the greatest amount of self-disclosure and for the more well-adjusted student to show the least self -disclosure when the targetperson was the closest friend. This seems to hold for intimate and semi-personal disclosures as well as for the sum of all self-disclosure. Further analysis indicated no relationship between self-disclosure and personality adjustment when the fa.mily member served as the target-person. I n the latter analysis only one of the 72 correlations (Si with semi-personal disclosure correlated -. 2 l ) was significant.

SWIMARY

The results indicated that those Ss with the most "disturbed" MMPI scores disclosed more to the friend who served as the target-person than did those students with the least "disturbed" hlhllPI scores. However, there was no correlation between the degree of self disclosure and personality adjustment when the targetperson was a family member.
