β¦ Synopsis
We observed before that in thin superconducting wire the fast changing current leads to increasing of normal zone propagation velocity. At the present work we investigate a normal zone propagation velocity under changing transport current in a thick, high current superconducting multifilament wire with the CuNi matrix. The sample was tested in a background magnetic field up to 3 T. The sufficient acceleration of normal zone propagation velocity was observed in such wire also. Therefore, this phenomenon is common for different superconductors. In quench processes some peculiarities were observed and discussed. The experiment is compared with the theory.

Quench propagation is studied in a superconductor with changing transport current I(t) placed in a varying magnetic field B(t). It is shown that the normal zone propagation velocity v increases and the quench energy ec decreases with an increase in the rate of change of transport current / and magne
