Abstract
A novel linearization method is proposed to increase the dynamic range of an electroβabsorption modulator in suboctave bandwidth operation by exploiting the fact that the phase of thirdβorder intermodulation distortion varies with the dc bias voltage. A reduction of 14 dB in IMD3 and a subsequent increase of the linear dynamic range were experimentally obtained.βΒ© 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 29: 2β5, 2001.

## Abstract A linearized optical modulation scheme using a dual parallel electroabsorption modulator (EAM) and an RF 180Β° hybrid junction is proposed. The IMD2 generated by each EAM is suppressed by controlling the dc bias voltage of the EAM, and the IMD3 is suppressed by having a proper input opti
