Two light waves of general polarisation P~ and P2 gain additional phase difference 3' = -1 g2 if they pass an analyser A; phase 3' is named after its discoverer Pancharatnam [1]. g2 is the spherical excess of the triangle P1P2A on the Poincar6 sphere.
