## Abstract We propose a simple and compact allβoptical onβoff switch working at 10 Gb/s. The operation of the switch is based on fourβwave mixing in only 1.9 m of bismuthβbased highly nonlinear fiber. The proposed switch has a fast response time, high ON/OFF switching ratio, and potential to work

β¦ Synopsis
The theory of all-fiber optical switch based on stimulated Raman scattering in a fiber loop mirror is described. A model has been developed to predict the transfer function of the loop as a function of a fiber core composition. Such a switch combines optical switching and amplification in a single device. A switching pulse energy of about 1 pJ at wavelength of 1550 nm is predicted for the Raman switch.
