Abstract

A theory of the nonlinear response of band charge carriers in semiconductors is developed for arbitrary degeneracy conditions taking into consideration the influence of a strong electromagnetic radiation field on the scattering probability and carrier heating. A comparison of the contributions made by said sources of nonlinearity to the absorption coefficient is carried out for the main mechanisms of interaction of charge carriers with optical and acoustical phonons to first order in the intensity of the electromagnetic radiation. The temperature dependence of the absorbtion coefficient for the non‐degenerate carriers is studied.
