Size quantization effects on excitonic optical transitions are studied by optical absorption experiments on sodium borosilicate glasses doped with CdS, CdSe or CdTe nanocrystals. The original sol-gel synthesis procedure involves the preparation of complex cadmiumbased molecules in an aqueous solutio
