## Abstract Equations describing phase volumes in multicomponent, multiphase systems in the neighborhood of critical points are derived to aid in the location of such critical points. The theory is in good agreement with experiments for three ternary systems and four surfactant systems of the type
Aqueous solutions of tetraalkylammoniurn salts, &NX, with sufficiently large chain length of the alkyl groups (R23) show liquid-liquid itmniscibilities at elevated temperatures. In general, upper consolute points are observed, but the shapes of the miscibility gaps indicate the existence of lower co
