✦ Synopsis

Renormalization equations for the Kosterlitz-Thouless vortex-unbinding transition indicate that this transition may be either continuous and of infinite order ("usual" Kosterlitz-Thouless transition) or discontinuous (non-universal jumps, etc.). Results from Monte Carlo simulations aiming at verifying the existence of both these possibilities for twodimensional XY-type models are reported.
