Pulsed lasers produce a variety of therapeutically useful effects in tissues by thermal mechanisms. In contrast with conventional hyperthermia, pulsed lasers rapidly induce extremely high temperatures confined to small areas within the tissues. It is not established, however, how cellular damage and
