✦ Synopsis
For the rod-shaped bichromophonc compound I-phenyld-( I-naphthylmethylene)plperuime a systematic study of the nonradlatlve decay processes of the charge transfer state has been camed out by means of smgle photon tunmg, phosphorescence and tramlent absorption measurements and laser-induced optoacoustlc spectroscopy These results can tentatively be explamed by a significant admixture of the less polar locally excited state configurations m the wave function of the enusSlve charge transfer state, especmlly m the low polarity repon Due to this configuratIon InteractIon, an efkent rachatlonless decay channel via twlstmg of the ethylene bond m the locally excited state of the vmylnaphthalene chromophore becomes accessible for the charge transfer state
