After some general remarks on non-perturbative QCD I present shortly models which lead to a color-electric flux tube formation. The implications of such a flux tube formation especially on high energy scattering are discussed. 1 F.u~,F(x~F f x ~--~Q CD(x) : iยขci(x)Tun?ScEf(x) -ms(bCf(x)ยขCt(x) -~ ~ J

Using gluon and ghost propagators obtained from Schwinger-Dyson equations (SDEs), we construct the nonperturbative effective charge of QCD. We employ two different definitions, which, despite their distinct fieldtheoretic origin, give rise to qualitative comparable results, by virtue of a crucial no
