β¦ Synopsis
The effect of non-linearities on the response of a localized system is investigated by studying the forced response of two coupled disordered pendula. It is found that localization persists for moderately large motions, while it is substantially reduced for larger motions. Spectral analysis, single and multiple PoincareΒ΄sections, and calculation of the divergence of neighbouring trajectories were used to characterize the response. The response, in both cases (moderately and very large motion) is quasi-periodic but the spectral content of the first case is much richer than that of the latter.
