where Y~,, is the mass fraction of any species i in the cool combustible stream and wr (T,_,, p, Y~,~) is the mass rate of consumption of reactant F in a system at the prevailing pressure (p), with the composition of the cool combustible stream (Y~,~), and at the temperature of the hot inert stream (T2). Equation 2certainly yields the essential pressure, temperature, composition and velocity dependences of the flame attachment length, and representative values of x~ calculated from equation 2, are in rough numerical agreement with flame attachment distances obtained in refs. 1-5. More details of the above reasoning are given in ref. 7.
