✦ Synopsis
Faint signals embedded in noise are very difficult to detect. Depending on the available knowledge, various methods have been developed for the particular detection problem. In many cases, a solution consists of preprocessing the data with a noise substraction procedure. When a noise reference is available this approach is well suited. This paper describes such a procedure based on wavelet packets. The key idea of this article is to use previous works Donoho (1993) and to adapt them to noise references to improve the results. This method allows us to avoid making hypotheses and eventually to check hypotheses classically made. After a description of the algorithm, we give some results about the denoising procedure applied to magnetic signals. We show the improvement brought about by the multisensor configuration.
