This takes the form of a small pocket sized portable instrument which can be worn or carried by anyone whose occupation necessitates exposure to noise during part or all of their working day. By means of this instrument, it is possible at the end of any selectable period of time to ascertain whether or not the user has, during this period, been subjected to a total level of noise from all sources which could be dangerous to health or cause part or total hearing loss if allowed to continue for a longer period.
