✦ Synopsis
PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL NAN-
One of the most stimulating aspects of micropalaeontological research is the interaction between industrial and academic practitioners. This book provides an excellent example. It is the result of an international gathering of nannoplankton workers held in the University of London during mid-1987. The editors have neatly structured the book to reflect the various themes covered: Morphology, Systematics, and Evolution (including J. R. Young (B.M.) on Observations on heterococcolith rim structure and its relationship to developmental processes; M-P Aubry (W.H.O.I.) on Phylogenetically based calcareous nannofossil taxonomy: implications for the interpretation of geological events; L. Gallagher (U.O.L.) on Reticulofenestra: a critical review of taxonomy, structure and evolution; S. Moshkovitz (Geol. Surv., Israel) and K. Osmond (Florida) on the optical properties and microcrystallography of Arkhangelskielloceae and some other calcareous nannofossils in the Late Cretaceous and P. Brown (U.C.L.) and M. K. E. Cooper (S.S.I.) with conical calcareous nannofossils in the Mesozoic), Palaeoenvironmental and Palaeogeographical Applications (including G . Gard (Stockholm) on variations in coccolith assemblages during the last glacial cycle in the high and mid-latitude Atlantic and Indian Oceans; J. Mutterlose (Hanover) on temperature-controlled migration of calcareous nannofloras in the northwest European Aptain; J. Crux
