The title compound, C 20 H 26 N 4 , was prepared by a condensation reaction between p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde and ethylenediamine. The molecule contains a crystallographically imposed twofold axis of symmetry.

The title complex, [Cu(C 24 H 18 N 2 O 2 )], has been synthesized and characterized. It is a mononuclear copper(II) complex. The Cu atom is four-coordinated by two N atoms and two O atoms of the bis-Schiff base ligand in a slightly distorted square-planar geometry.
