The title compound, [Co(C 24 H 18 N 2 O 2 )], is mononuclear. The Co II atom is coordinated by two N atoms and two O atoms from a bis±Schiff base ligand in a slightly distorted squareplanar geometry.

The title compound, [Zn(C 24 H 18 N 2 O 2 )], is a mononuclear zinc(II) complex. The crystal is isostructural with the previously studied Ni and Co analogues. The Zn atom has a slightly distorted square-planar coordination formed by two O and two N atoms of the tetradentate Schiff base ligand.

In the original paper by Qiu, Yang, Liu & Zhu [__Acta Cryst.__ (2006), E**62**, m1320–m1231], the H atoms attached to N1 and N3 are positioned incorrectly. These have been deleted and the structure rerefined. The correct name of the structure is bis(2,4-dichlorobenzaldehyde 2-hydroxybenzoylhydrazona
