Preliminary results on the electrochemical behaviour of copper in contact with fused NaNO,-KNO, at 250ยฐC are reported. Electrode-potential measurements and X-ray analysis indicate that films formed on the copper surface consist mainly of Cu,O. Passivation of copper is induced by anodic polarization.

The addition of silver nitrate to a caesium nitrate melt sometimes resulted in the formation of a dark-brown turbidity ; in these cases a drop of concentrated nitric acid was introduced into the melt, and the cell was evacuated to eliminate water and excess acid. Clear solutions were then obtained.
