The expressions having a concrete meaning (a meaning resulting from an impression on one or more of the five senses) are evidently to be taught by object lessons. The mental images (ideas) are thus connected with the sounds representing them. The abstract, being merely the result found by comparison or association of ideas, must necessarily be taught by striking examples establishing such comparison (context). Idioms (and Grammar, which is the systematized part of the idiomatic element of a language) represent the peculiar habit of speech of a certain people and must therefore be taught by continuous practice in order to form the habit of correct construction.
