After our parents died, the only thing that mattered to me was taking care of my baby brother. He was just a little thing then—still is, I guess—and all I wanted to do was comfort and protect him.

It’s why I used to let him climb into bed with me at night after our grandmother took us in.

It’s where I figured out the best way to soothe him when he was upset.

I never meant to give him an oral fixation, but now I can’t stop my twisted, all-consuming, fucked-up love for him into taking those innocent memories and turning them into something else.

Which I guess makes it a good thing that I’m deployed half a world away from him, even if it kills me to be so far apart. But then our grandmother passes, and Scout needs me.

Guess it’s time for me to finally come home…
