โœฆ Synopsis

The Patents Bill, to update, modernise and improve patents law, was published on 16 January. The Bill's proposals are intended to provide a more supportive framework, particularly for small businesses, to enforce patent rights and ensure that UK patent law continues to underpin and promote innovation. The Bill includes measures designed to help those trying to resolve disputes over patent rights, and provisions to ensure compliance with international commitments that help UK businesses. Lord Sainsbury, Minister for Science & Innovation commented: The Government is committed to improving the environment necessary to support and encourage innovation. Effective, flexible and up-to-date patent law is essential to help businesses turn bright ideas into successful products and processes.
