Cognis' APG surfactants obtain GRAS status
On 11 Dec 2008, Cognis GmbH announced that it has received GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status for its Glucopon line of alkyl polyglucoside surfactants (APGs). GRAS status for the Glucopon surfactants is granted based on the information provided by Cognis, as well as other information available to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). According to Cognis, the products can be used in formulations for the cleaning of foods, including fruits, vegetables, meat, and poultry products, as well as in cleaning hardsurfaces that come into contact with food. Derived for renewable natural raw materials, APG surfactants have always been considered a highperforming, naturally-derived alternative for formulators when choosing a surfactant. By adding GRAS status to the products, Cognis believes Glucopon surfactants uniquely bridge product safety with performance and naturalness.
