Sales of mechanical components for the first six months almost doubled to reach over £137m.

Cost savings resulting from the company's restructuring plan totalled 56m for the quarter and $12m for the first six months of 1996. This compares to restructuring savings of 53m and 56m for comparable periods in 1995. EG&G noted that its effective tax rate of 32% for the first six months of 1996 was lower that the 39% in 1995. This was primarily due to lower anticipated repatriation costs and changes in the geographical distribution of income.
