โฆ Synopsis
Volatilization Tests on a Low-grade Ore.--The Intermounrain experiment station of the Bureau of Mines, at Salt Lake City, which is making an extensive study of the metallurgy of the volatilization process, recently completed a series of experiments on a low-grade oxidized ore from Nevada, assaying 0.286 ounce gold, 3.4 ounces silver, and 4.5 per cent. lead. The experiments showed that 80 per cent. of the gold, 75 per cent. of the silver, and 76 per cent. of the lead could be volatilized with the addition of sodium chloride alone. The use of a small amount of calcium chloride in addition to the sodium chloride, increased these recoveries by about IO per cent.
