## Abstract With the continually improving performance of long‐distance optical communication systems, it becomes important to administer and control wavelength dispersion of the optical fiber. In this paper, a method of measurement of the group velocity dispersion (GVD) of an optical fiber using o

✦ Synopsis
The application of high-frequency pulsed laser diodes for fringe-type laser Doppler anemometry allows multi-component flow velocity measurements by using only one receiver and one signal processing chain. This is effected by synchronization of the laser pulses with the sampling process of the data acquisition system. Consequently, an identical wavelength can be used for all components. The experimental verification of this new technique is described. The technique permits the design of miniaturized and low cost optical flow sensors which can be used for low and high speed flows.
