magnified image Reaction of N‐arylisoindolines with benzyne afforded predominantly 10‐arylisoindolo[2,1‐f]phenanthridines. On the other hand, N‐arylisoindolines react with dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate to give dimethyl 2‐(2‐aryl‐2__H__‐isoindol‐1‐yl)fumarates. Possible reaction mechanisms are discussed. J.
