✦ Synopsis

Five 5-hydroxy-6-ketone brassinosteroid analogs have been synthesized from stigmasterol (1) and their plant growth promoting activity has been evaluated using rice lamina inclination test. 3 has elicited high activity as plant growth regulator.

The new brassinosteroids (III), (IV), (VI), and (VII) are prepared via hydroxylation of the diene (II) or its C-5 epimer. (IV) shows strong plant growth promoting activity and is a good candidate for application in agriculture.
