โฆ Synopsis
Almtract--New polyesters were prepared by reacting 2,6-di(4-hydroxystyryl)pyridine (DHSP) with terephthaloyl or adipoyl chloride utilizing the interfacial polycondensation method. In addition, new polyurethanes were prepared by reaction of DHSP with a diisocyanate such as tolylene diisocyanate, methylenebis(4-phenylisocyanate) and hexamethylene-l,6-diisocyanate. A model diester and diurethane were synthesized by reacting DHSP with benzoyl chloride and phenyl isocyanate, respectively. The polymers were characterized by inherent viscosity measurements, i.r. spectroscopy, and DTA. Characterization of model compounds was accomplished by i.r. and *H-NMR spectroscopy and by elemental analyses. The thermal stabilities of polymers were evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis and IGA. Polyesters were significantly more thermostable than polyurethanes. The thermal stabilities of polymers were remarkably improved by curing. The uncured and cured samples of polyester derived from DHSP and terephthaioyl chloride were stable up to 444 and 460 ยฐ, respectively, in nitrogen.
