β¦ Synopsis
A novel method of gas sensing is proposed based on information from the non-linear dynamic property of a ceramic gas sensor. A sinusoidal voltage is applied to a heater equipped with an SnO2 gas sensor and the resulting output resistance is analysed by fast Fourier transformation (FFT). It is found that the intensities of the higher harmonics exhibit characteristic changes in the presence of different kinds of gas.
