✦ Synopsis
Molecular aggregates of rhodamine 6G in aqueous solutions were studied by the measurement of absorption and fluorescence emission spectra, as well as fluorescence decay curves, all as a function of pressure. In moderately concentrated solutions ( C 7~ 10e4 M), the fluorescence spectra revealed that the dimer was nonfluorescent up to 900 MPa. In more concentrated solutions ( > 3X lo-' M), a new absorption peak located at 477 nm, which was assigned to higher aggregates other than the dimer, was observed at high pressures. These higher aggregates were found to fluoresce with a new emission peak located at 650 nm. The photophysical properties of the higher aggregates are discussed.
