β¦ Synopsis
A new single-mode fiber polarization scrambler based upon a simple fiber-ring structure and usable with a narrowband light source is described. The degree of polarization decreases by more than y20 dB when the input is 100% polarized. Design criteria and principles are discussed. We demonstrate that the polarization scrambler eliminates the effects of induced polarization fluctuation in a polarization-sensitive fiber-optic system.
