✦ Synopsis
New maps of the soft X-ray background (SXRB) using data from the ROSAT PSPC All-Sky Survey have been constructed in 7 energy bands and with 12' spatial resolution. Statistics of the intensity maps and of the exposure map are presented. Modeling of the 1 / 4 keV and of 3/4 keV data yields apparently conflicting results. However, besides the different data sets involved in the fits also different distances and regions may have been sampled with different properties (lower halo, upper halo of the Galaxy). Also model imperfections (e.g., temperature variations, non-equilibrium) could explain some differences. An outlook is given to improved spectral binning of reprocessed (so-called RASS2) survey data.
